Catholic Press Association honors Catholic Digest, Twenty-Third Publications, Novalis Publishing
ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. — Catholic Digest won three awards from Catholic Press Association during its annual awards banquet on Friday.
The magazine, which is published by Bayard, Inc., won honorable mentions in the magazine division in the best special issue, best regular column — arts, leisure, culture, and food; and best interview categories.
The special issue award was for Moments with Pope Francis: Lessons from the Vicar of Christ. In that issue, the magazine examined the major theological documents of Pope Francis’ pontificate along with stunning photography. Senior writer Tom Hoopes was among the issue’s contributors. The issue was published in spring 2018.
Articles by Fr. Anthony Giambrone, OP, and Gina Loehr, in the magazine’s Way of Beauty department won in the best regular column — arts, leisure, culture, and food category.
An interview by senior writer Lori Hadacek Chaplin won in the best interview category. The article, “Obianuju Ekeocha: A fierce, elegant warrior for the culture of life in Africa” appeared in the magazine’s October 2018 issue.
Bayard’s book divisions also won.
In the pastoral ministry category, author Maureen Pratt and Twenty-Third Publications placed second for Salt and Light: Church, Disability, and the Blessing of Welcome for All.
Novalis Publishing won in the following categories:
- First place, poetry: Stray Devotions: Prayers, Poems and Intercessions from the Bench by James Clarke
- Honorable mention, liturgy: Unlocking the Feasts and Seasons of the Liturgical Year by Glenn Byer
- Second place, best new religious book series: Pilgrim Year by Steve Bell
