Daily Gospel reflections: Christ’s spirit is still with us
Friday of the Fourth Week of Lent
The Lord is close to the brokenhearted. (Psalm 34:19)
I was feeling discouraged after a speaker I know told a story that put women in a very negative light. Even though he later apologized, I wondered if he really understood the effect his words had or the deep pain he caused to some of the women attending the seminar on prayer.
While listening to the car radio later that day, I happened to hear an interview with a well-known singer and songwriter. He is a deeply spiritual man, and during the interview they played a rendition of Psalm 23 he had composed that included feminine imagery to portray the God who cannot be contained in any one image. It was an answer to my prayer and touched me so deeply that my despair and desolation gave way to hope and gratitude for the many ways Christ’s spirit continues to dwell on earth and minister to the brokenhearted.
