Chicago's Mercy Home for Boys and Girls Wins Catholic Digest's 'Love Your Neighbor' Award
September 15th, 2011
New London, Conn. (September 13, 2011)- Each year, Catholic Digest readers choose a Catholic charitable organization to receive the annual Love Your Neighbor Award. This award recognizes the invaluable work of Catholic charities around the world and is accompanied by a $5,000 cash gift.
Founded in 1887, Mercy Home is dedicated to providing a solution for at-risk children in Chicago; to help them find the path to a brighter future. Sustained by benefactors who believe in the miracle of God’s mercy in action, Mercy Home saves young lives by providing a safe, nurturing home, opportunity for an excellent education, and means for personal growth.
Mercy Home’s success statistics include:
- 72% of their children overcame or lessened the problems that impacted their lives before coming to Mercy Home
- 94% of their children who were failing their classes upon arriving at Mercy Home improved their grades to a “C” average or better
- 92% of their AfterCare youth made measurable quarterly progress in pursuit of their personal development plans.
“We are grateful to Catholic Digest readers for choosing us as this year’s Love Your Neighbor Award winner,” said Fr. Scott Donahue, President and CEO of Mercy Home. “As a donation-based organization, we cannot continue to support the youth and families that we serve without the generosity of our community of givers. This award will be put to good use.”
