  • Spring ahead tomorrow night & that's got me thinking about Easter! Would anyone mind sharing any special Easter traditions? How do you celebrate Easter?

  • Hi Avk. We dye Easter eggs and have an egg hunt on Holy Saturday. It's usually too cold to have it outdoors, but one year we were blessed with good weather, so that made it extra special. Later that night the eggs get deviled for an appetizer on Easter Sunday. We don't do the Easter Bunny at our house, but my son does get an Easter basket with a few little things, at least one religious gift. We go to Mass of course, and play Easter CDs (my son has a child's Easter CD, and we play the Messiah). We have company over for Easter dinner around 3pm. I have some Easter decorations which we put out on Holy Saturday. My son loves holidays and gets very excited when I bring out the decorations. (They stay up till Ascension Thursday.)

  • How fun! Yes, I agree---it's much too cold for an easter egg hunt here in MI, they'd be hunting in the snow! :) We don't do the bunny either. I need to get more decorations..thinking about an Easter tree thanks to that gosh darn pinterest!

  • Mine are small (<4), so we are still developing our traditions & of course changing them as little ones get bigger. This year we're excited to do an egg hunt both indoors AND outdoors (we live in Texas, so weather is not a problem unless its raining/muddy). We'll also do an Easter basket with a few chocolates inside + Mass with Easter clothes. I also had this idea of emptying eggs (by just poking a hole and draining out the yolk/white parts) and then closing up all the eggs with tape. Then one egg will have a surprise inside (glitter? confetti?) and the person who gets it, well, gets it, lol. As you can see, its a half-baked idea. We'll see where it goes... I cannot wait to hear others' ideas...

  • That's a cute idea Jen! Let us know how it works out.

  • On Holy Saturday we finish coloring our Polish Easter eggs (pysanki) as well as dye some the usual way. We also decorate our little Easter tree with craft eggs we made earlier in the week. We get our baskets of eggs with some Easter food blessed at our parish. On Easter we put out our Fontanini Easter scene. Then we go to mass and I make Easter brunch. We have an egg hunt with plastic eggs indoors if it's cold out, and outdoors if it's above 50 degrees. The kids get Easter baskets with a couple religious items and a couple chocolate crosses (we don't do chocolate bunnies). In-laws give them more candy. For dinner I make lamb. Then we pray the Office and the Rosary.

  • We have lamb for dinner too. Usually with mashed potatoes, but when my son was a baby and I was a little overwhelmed and wanted to do as much ahead of time as possible, I made potato salad. That simplified things on Easter Sunday.
