  • Wonderful insight Mary!!! Sadly, I think that today's generation (especially 20 yrs and younger) has grown up with so much of this electronic communication they would be like 'fish out of water' trying to communicate the way we did growing up. My own 19 yr old is joined at the hip with her iphone, texting & Facebook... I DO AGREE with you!! It will take a COMMUNITY to reintroduce them back to the ways you refer to above. I sure do like getting those old fashioned letters in the mail, especially if they're scented!! Keep blogging :D

  • This is so true! I so totally agree with you on all accounts. Face to face or phone conversations are much better in building any relationship than text or email!!! Thanks for sharing!

  • Mary, you hit the nail on the head.. I so agree with what you are saying. I, too, hate the see anyone, even family, sit at the dinner table and instead of conversing with those around them, keep looking at the phone to see if anyone has text them.. To me that is so insulting. It means those around them don't matter.. only the person who has just text them. Thanks, Mary, for saying what we all feel.

  • The line that struck me the most in your blog is about "How can I tell how you are really feeling unless I can see your face?" How true. It's easier to embellish how we are when it's done thru "blind" means as text, e-mail. Friends can read our faces without words. Keep blogging, dear one. You have so much to say that we ALL need to hear.

  • I disagree. Electronic communication has deepened many of my relationships and have brought many back into my life. I truly wasn't a fan of emails and thought of it as a quick easy way to get information, especially in business. I even signed up for Facebook, but within the 1 st 6 months cancelled my account. Now, with the iPhone and iPad, I have easier access to these forums and find myself communicating more on Facebook and other forums, not only with my friends, but with the larger community. Community is all about cultivating relationships. Today's electronic gadgets have made it easier for everyone to stay in touch. Granted, it is good to have the face to face time and hugs whenever possible. Having daily electronic relationships is like getting little hugs from heaven. I'm thankful to have this medium because without it I doubt I would have subscribed to this magazine. I found you electronically. God Bless You.

  • My thanks to Jeanette for her insight in an opposing view point. We can all learn from one another, and I've learned from her. As I said, electronic communication is great when folks are too far away, but I can also see how it can be helpful for that quick electronic "hug" when we can't be there right away. My thanks as well to those who agreed with me. I love all the view points this electronic media affords me. Blessings to all!

  • My thanks to Francisco. While I do not give out my email address over public media, I WILL google your piece, and look forward to reading it. May God bless your efforts.
