  • This being Akathistos Saturday in the Eastern Catholic Churches, our parish chanted the beautiful Akathist to the Most Holy Theotoks & Ever-Virgin Mary this morning. During this particular Akathist, the faithful chant close to 150 various titles for the Blessed Mother, repeating the refrain, "Rejoice, O Bride and Maiden Ever Pure..." The Akathist Hymn to the Theotokos is traditionally prayed on the 5th Saturday of Great Lent. This particular Akathist Hymn is regarded as one of the most poetically beautiful prayers every composed. Akathist means "standing" - it is a prayer to be rendered "joyfully on two feet". Although the Akathist Hymn to the Theotokos is the most well-known, there are various Akathists for other devotions, both ancient & new, in use throughout the Eastern Christian world.

  • total change of subject here... this is NFP related... has anyone had any luck with TTC with lack of mucus and what has worked to help the lack of fertile mucus problem and have you had successful pregnancies with that treatment? I'm heading to a GYN this week but am interested in success stories...

  • Sarah- We had a similar situation. After 3 years of trying (and thinking I was ovulating), I sought medical care for infertility. It turns out my prolactin level was a little high. After 6 weeks of taking a medicine to lower my prolactin level, I was pregnant. Who knew it was that easy! Good luck!

  • Sara, depends on what is causing the lack. I was (am) on Clomid ttc and it can be drying; B6 helped, and I've used guaifenisen (sp?) as well (it's just cold medicine, and there are several brands that are guaifenisen-only). The latter was recommended in our CCL manual. I think "Fertility, Cycles, and Nutrition" might have some help in that department too. I have 3 kids, so the dryness can be overcome; good luck!

  • Hi Sara, a funny but true story from me to you...I used an egg white from organic eggs~when I knew I was ovulating and it worked! Make sure they are room temperature or slightly warmed in a bowl of warm water before separating the yolks and whites because the first time we tried, I was *surprised and shocked* at the cold feeling down there! We also used many of the ideas from a {non-Catholic but helpful} book called "Taking charge of your fertility" by Toni Weschler {not sure of spelling} and they are the same things that Anna mentioned in her helpful post, as well. Best wishes and good luck!
