  • this sounds perfect... what's on dock for discussion today?

  • Is it too early to talk about any new Advent ideas or re sources? Right now we still have some peace and quiet to think ahead and plan (spiritually) for what advent ought to look like for ourselves and/or our entire families. Once Thanksgiving is over, I'm already too busy to think and plan out advent properly.

  • Hi, I used to blog in this space here at Catholic Digest and thought I would stop by. Daria mentioned Advent Resources and I hope you don't mind if I mention my book, "Feeling the Wonder: Advent for Families 2012." It contains parent-focused reflections on the daily Mass readings, a little prayer to say with your family, and an Advent activity you can do with your kids each day. It's published by Twenty-Third Publications, a sister company of Catholic Digest. (www.23rdpublications.com) Hope you enjoy it!

  • Just checking how the commenting works here. Still no "reply" function but we are functional! :)

  • For newcomers, this open forum is a place to share what's on your mind/ask a question/vent a problem/offer encouragement/share a story, etc. Just think of this as a room full of like-minded Catholic women with a variety of life experiences and all kinds of wisdom and encouragement to share. What might you like to ask -- anything big or small. I like that Daria started us thinking about Advent because ... here it comes! What are your family's plans for the weeks before Christmas? How do you keep your kids (and yourself!) focused on Christ's coming when there is so much noise & distraction?

  • Hmmm, comment order seems jumbled ... checking on that ...

  • Oh good! It will be great to be a part of this again!

  • My hands-down favorite Advent resource is the Holy Heroes Advent Adventure! I look forward to doing it with the kids at least as much as they do. http://www.holyheroes.com

  • We like to put the tree up about a week before Christmas and decorate it Christmas Eve during the day. This helps keep us focused on Advent for most of December.

  • As another former blogger here with Connie Clark, I'll be very interested to see how this goes. It sounds like a wonderful idea and a great way to allow more folks to have a voice.

  • We get our tree very early in the Advent season because we go to a local cut-your-own tree farm. We found out the first year that if we don't go early, there isn't much left to choose from. I was torn about having the tree up so early, though, so we have used that tree as our Jesse Tree. We put the lights on when we get it home (too difficult once it starts to dry out) but only hang the Jesse Tree ornaments on it. Then, on Christmas Eve, we take them down and decorate the tree for Christmas. It started as a compromise between decorating closer to Christmas but still getting a decent tree, but it has turned into a neat transition symbol.

  • I'm so glad to have found you all again! I missed F&FL so much. I'm starting to pull my advent boxes out of storage this week so we'll be all ready after Thanksgiving. We also put up our tree with white lights and use it as a Jesse Tree. We use Holy Heroes Jesse Tree video and the Advent Adventure activities each night after dinner. We try to do some of the other activities during day too if time allows.
