  • I use the marquette method. This month my "high" readings went on and on and on... no peak, though. I wondered if I was still really "high" (ie, primed to ovulate) so I reset my monitor and the next day recieved a "low" reading. This makes me think I just skipped ovulation and am therefore now "in the clear" for love-making. HOWEVER, I know there are instances in which ovulation is delayed (such as during times of stress)... so I am wondering if the monitor would detect another set of "high" days prior to "peaking" (IF I am indeed going to peak later this month) or if I need to be ready to get a "peak" reading any day now (ie, no "high" readings will preceede it)??? I know I messed things up be resetting the moitor. What I would love to know, though, is if "low" means I'm in the clear...

  • This last month I had something similar happen. I had no peak (and I usually have 2 days) but I had high for what seemed like forever. I usually peak at days 15 and 15 or 15 and 16 and then 3 high days and that is it. With my period starting at around day 28. This time no peak - highs until day 24 and then the next day it was low and my period started that night. We have had illnesses and I was on penicillin for a week and other allergy medicine so I wonder if that threw things off. Hope I go back to "normal" next go around.

  • Hi Jen, I have had this happen several times this last year, and as my cycles are long - 35 to 39, I often have to reset the machine completely, too. I wrote in to the forum, and evidently, the monitor is set to read "high" UNTIL there is a peak. My peak is anywhere from 18 days, to 29 {I have had 5 cycles with no peak reading this year} Part of the protocol requires checking CM, so we are just careful to avoid until the machine reads low, or after the peak, and CM is no longer fertile for three consecutive days... hope this helps a bit.

  • Thanks, Lynnea! So once you get a "low" reading (after re-setting, I presume, since the monitor will keep saying "high" until there is a peak), you consider yourself not able to concieve for that cycle? Do you do a count of three from the last "high," or is there no need, since there was no "peak"? Also, have you EVER had a peak just show up randomly after resetting mid-cycle? Sorry to have so many questions!

  • I too use the marquette method. Jen. Are you doing the bf protocol? No, you wouldn't assume you are infertile. The only thing a high reading tells you is a hormonal shift occurred in prep for ovulation. Unless you got the peak reading, especially if you didnt actually cycle, you are not assumed infertile. I don't know how seriously TTA you are but I wouldn't risk it if you are serious. Have you tried asking at the marquette NFP forums?my layman's opinion would be that you're not in the clear especially since you just got a "low" after resetting, there's no basis for a hormone surge after one day. I take temps as a cross check... We are strongly motivated to avoid right now.

  • Hi Jen, I'm NOT a professional with this, but have had success since my son was born...I have only been using the monitor for 1 1/2 years..so with that said, I would not automatically assume infertility simply because of one low reading--you might be, it's just that there is no guarantee. I have been very cautious as we are not TTC right now, and have a cross-check of my CM. I read in a book quite some time ago that it is very difficult/impossible to conceive without fertile mucus, even if the hormones are present. So, I am careful to keep track of monitor readings as well as CM to be sure we are in the clear for intimacy...does that help a bit? I certainly don't want you to think I have all the answers, as I don't. But, when I figured out that I have to reset the monitor if I haven't had a peak reading by day 25, I completely reset it {not just zoom ahead to day 5} so that there is a fresh start. I wait 4 full low readings and only then, if there is no CM I feel fairly secure that we are in phase 3 infertility. Good luck with this!
