Meet the Catholic Digest team
STAFF
Dan Connors was named editor-in-chief of Catholic Digest June 1, 2005. He served most recently as editor-in-chief of Today's Parish. Before that he served as managing editor of Pastoral Music magazine (the National Association of Pastoral Musicians, NPM), and managing editor of Emmanuel magazine. He has worked with parish leaders for 26 years and has been an active parish volunteer. His wife, Deborah, is pastoral associate at St. Mary Star of the Sea Parish in New London, Connecticut.

Traci Neal joined Catholic Digest as copy chief and bookshelf editor in July 2006. She received her journalism degree from Southern Connecticut State University and has worked as a newspaper and magazine writer, editor, and/or copy editor since 1988.

Julie Rattey, managing editor, joined Catholic Digest in 2002. In addition to writing and editing articles for the magazine, she is the department editor for Be Well and Products. She is also translator and managing editor of the American edition of Living With Christ for Kids. She received her B.A. in English from Harvard University where she wrote for the Harvard Crimson.

Kerry Weber, associate editor, joined Catholic Digest in 2005. Kerry earned a B.A. in English from Providence College, and spent her junior year abroad at Blackfriars Hall, Oxford University. Prior to joining the Catholic Digest staff, she worked part-time for six years as a reporter, writer, and producer for the Catholic Communications Corporation in Springfield, Mass.

Danielle Drolet, marketing communications associate and web editor, joined Catholic Digest in 2006. Drolet earned a B.A. in communications with a concentration in print journalism at Quinnipiac University in Hamden, Connecticut. Prior to joining the Catholic Digest staff, she worked full-time for two years as the education reporter at the Taunton Daily Gazette in Taunton, Mass.

Paul Bourque, production, traffic and Web manager, first served as a technical consultant to Catholic Digest in 2002, providing editorial and production workflow systems, and support. Paul joined CD as a staff member in 2005 as Production Manager. He has ten years of experience in printing, publishing, and pre-press.

Jeff McCall has been the art director of Catholic Digest since 2002. He is currently also the Art Director of God's Word Today, Living With Christ and Twenty-Third Publications where since 1996 he has overseen the design direction of Today's Parish Minister and Religion Teacher's Journal magazines.

Marilyn Samuelsen, circulation marketing director, joined the Bayard Magazine Group in March 2007. She comes to Bayard from her position as circulation director at MediZine, Inc. in New York, N.Y. Samuelsen previously worked as the circulation manager at World Mining Equipment (2003), and at World Press Review (1999), both located in New York City. She achieved a Bachelor of Science in accounting from Pace University.

Valerie Westrate is circulation manager of the Bayard Magazine Group. She previously worked as the New London facility controller and has served Bayard for 8 years.

Kathleen Stauffer leads the magazine teams as President and Publisher of the Bayard Magazine Group. After 19 years at Catholic Digest, Bayard Inc’s flagship publication in North America, and 25 years as a journalist, Kathleen began her publishing career with God's Word Today in 2003. A 1985 graduate of Point Park University, she has coauthored two wellness books and recently completed Padre Pio, an intimate portrait of a saint through the eyes of his friends. She received early career training at The Pittsburgh Press, Reader's Digest, and Prevention Magazine.

Bret D. Thomas, President and CEO of Bayard Inc., joined the company in January 2007. He recently came to Bayard after serving as President and CEO of Peter Li Inc., publisher of Catechist, Today's Catholic Teacher, the Pflaum Gospel Weeklies, and other religious instructional books and supplemental materials. Prior to that, Bret taught high school biology and life sciences for the Diocese of Pittsburgh. He earned graduate and undergraduate degrees from the University of Pittsburgh and the University of Dayton.
