CatholicTV launches prayer and penance initiative to address Church scandal

Bishop Robert Reed

CatholicTV announced this week that it is launching a new six-month initiative called “Together We Rebuild” through Easter Sunday to help the Church focus on prayer and penance in wake of recent scandals.

“Each month of the campaign will be guided by a theme related to rebuilding and will include corresponding programming and resources such as video series, blogs, magazine articles, and social media initiatives,” CatholicTV said.

Viewers on Nov. 11 will start a novena of penance and prayer for the healing of abuse victims and the purification of the Church. The novena concludes on Nov. 19 with a 12-hour day of penance and prayer that will be broadcast live from its Chapel of the Holy Cross. It will include Mass, Exposition of the Blessed Sacrament, testimonies from Catholics around the country, and the rosary.

“These challenging times require tremendous faith and humility,” said Bishop Robert Reed, an auxiliary bishop of the Archdiocese of Boston and the president of The CatholicTV Network. “We have embarked on this campaign to provide support and prayers to those that need healing and to help rebuild the Church we love.”

Reed also serves as the editor-at-large of Catholic Digest.
